I See... Why a BYU Sports Team Will Never Win a Major Collegiate National Championship... Probably...

Say What? The Mormon Third Eye, the most ardent supporter of the Blue and White, predicting doom for BYU? Before the cyber death threats start and fans start calling for my temple recommend to be pulled, listen to my reasoning.

To marshall the superb skills necessary to overcome all challengers and win a national championship, a team and its school needs to devote everything to the cause; yes, EVERYTHING. This means devoting their whole heart, mind, might, and strength, every fiber of their being, to the great work of winning. Nothing can be as important as winning.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, BYU teams and its players will not always be able to give it their all; they are going to hold back a little something for the gospel of Jesus Christ. They will save a little part of their heart for serving their God, their families, and their fellow man. Eternal life will always be more important to BYU than an undefeated season, and certainly God will reward them for their priorities. These priorities were evident in how they handled the Brandon Davies episode. They put his eternal welfare ahead of BYU's basketball season.

But what a minute... We all can be tools in the hand of God, even sports stars. What if God is trying to send a message to his children and get their attention? Certainly a lot of people pay a lot of attention to collegiate sports. What if he has chosen to use BYU to point his people to Christ? Could there be a better lesson to teach? Win or lose, God's designs are accomplished.
