The power to move mountains.
God has it and shares it occasionally with carefully chosen servants
possessing the sure faith to believe it exists.
I am not one of those. I believe in the power of God, but my faith in
His power to move mountains relies on secondhand belief in firsthand scriptural
accounts of such miracles. Like many other
miracles, I have a difficult time logically figuring out the mechanics of how
it is done. On the surface, it defies
known laws of physics and nature.
Ask someone who has consecrated their will to God and taken
advantage of the healing power of the Atonement to root out the wicked spirit
of serious sin in their heart, however, and you may hear a different
story. In their eyes, after having personally
experienced the truly awesome power of the Atonement to save them from their sins,
moving a few mountains in the course of doing the Lord’s work seems completely
logical and reasonable. They too don’t
understand the mechanics of how the miracle of forgiveness occurs, but they have
witnessed firsthand the cleansing power of the Atonement. In other words, after spiritual mountains
have been moved in their own lives, why not move a few tangible mountains
around in the name of Lord when required?
